This game is not designed to run on your device. Add it to a collection to play later, or you can try to run it anyway.

Fight of the nightmares that plague your dreams.

They appear from the black fog, wandering towards your bed. You play as a spirit defending your body in sleep. If you get too close to the nightmares, they will hurt you. Lay out a strategic maze of traps and shoot airplanes to push back the nightmares.

Controls:

  • Left-click: shoot/place trap
  • 1,2,3: pick trap
  • Q: destroy trap
  • WASD: move
  • Shift: sprint
  • T: spawn next wave
  • E: damage yourself (whoops forgot to remove from testing)

Mechanics explained:

Inspired by Orcs Must Die. A tower defense (TD) where the player takes an active role in defending by attacking the enemies directly with a weapon.

However, in Nightmare Tower Defence, the path can be fully blocked. Enemies will destroy blockades if they cannot reach the bed through a clear path. Each wave of enemies is predetermined. The player can also shoot paper airplanes at the enemies to damage them.

There are 3 enemy types:

  • Normal nightmare: pretty average at everything
  • Little nightmare: small, fast, little health, poor damage, ignores player
  • Big nightmare: very big, slow, big health, big damage

There are 3 traps:

  • Pillow wall: blocks enemy's paths
  • Lego bricks: damages enemies at regular intervals
  • Slime trap: slows enemies

Placing traps costs cash, you start with some cash on each level. But defeating enemies gives you more cash. You can destroy your traps for a partial refund.

Whenever enemies reach the bed, they damage the dreamer's mind. Represented by the health bar on the bottom left with a bed icon.

Actually competently assembled and not bad, and not just another Unity asset flip! The second level is where I died, lol.

One thing that I didn't know at the time is what the green tile did as it wasn't really that obvious in-game, but having looked at the description later I figured it out. I love how the Lego damages the enemy, as everyone can relate to those experiences.

Honestly, well designed and totally playable as a proof of concept. Definitely had a lot of fun playing and I'm looking forward to the next title from Mongoose Entertainment.

7/10 IGN.

PS: Please implement invert mouse look options in the future.

This is cool! Fun twist on the formula. I like that it's a little kid defending from nightmare

Glad you enjoyed it.

Nice! Shooting felt satisfying and pretty much everything worked as expected to make a fun experience. I died on the second wave of the second level.
